Hoje o Banco Mundial publicou o “Relatório sobre o Desenvolvimento Mundial de 2016. Dividendos digitais”. Ele analisa os impactos esperados da revolução digital, constatando que o acesso ao mundo digital e os supostos benefícios são ainda desiguais na população, especialmente nos países economicamente frágeis.

O estudo aponta que 60% da população mundial ainda não possui acesso à Internet. Entre os que possui acesso, apenas 15 % têm banda larga. Em alguns países chama a atenção a desigualdade de gênero em relação ao acesso ao mundo digital. Um exemplo disso, são os países onde mulheres são impedidas de acessar à Internet ou mesmo fundar empresas ligadas a TI.
Porém, o relatório conclui que a Internet tem promovido o desenvolvimento ao abaixar os custos à informação, possibilitando ainda colaboração, geração de produtos, desempenando de modo geral um papel inclusivo, inovador e eficiente.
No entanto, muitas potenciais ainda não chegaram a beneficiar a população mundial. Especialmente em relação à criação de empregos, serviços e crescimento econômico. A Internet também gera expectativas para melhoria na capacidade de atendimento do serviço público, da comunicação e do atendimento aos cidadãos.
O relatório aponta também que a educação nas escolas deve mudar, pois muitas profissões vão parar de existir e novas irão surgir no futuro. Por isso, faz-se necessário aumentar as capacidades sócio-emocionais, cognitivas e a flexibilidade dos indivíduos. Nesse sentido, o relatório destaca que as gerações futuras serão obrigadas a se capacitar permanentemente ao longo da vida.
